Frequently asked questions

Which data sources will be integrated first, and when?

Currently, Athumi will enable partners to receive student attestations and diplomas with itsme® data sharing, with additional Flemish and Federal data sources to follow. Later this year, we will partner with Izimi to provide access to notarial deeds, private deeds, and certified documents. Contact us to discuss your data needs.

What are the obligations for consumers of itsme®’s data sharing service?

Data consumers must comply with applicable regulations (e.g., GDPR, eIDAS, AML) and contractual agreements.

Legal basis and proportionality are reviewed during onboarding. Additional agreements may be needed for specific data requests.

Will itsme® offer a data vault or wallet?

No, itsme® acts as a secure gateway connecting trusted data sources with companies. Users link their itsme® accounts to vaults or wallets to share data. Core identity data is managed by itsme®, while other data comes from authoritative sources.

Will I get a copy of shared data or a link to its source?

Both options are supported, but it depends on the data source. A copy provides immediate access without further development. A link enables ongoing validity checks without repeated user consent. Contact us for guidance on the best approach for your use case.

How long does an access grant last?

The data source or vault defines default longevity. Contractual reviews can extend access based on the request’s purpose.

If a user revokes access, will itsme® ensure no copies are kept?

Data handling compliance is the responsibility of the data consumer, guided by vault-specific agreements and audits.

Will itsme® support healthcare use cases?

Healthcare use cases (e.g., prescriptions) are part of the European Digital Identity Wallet Large Scale Pilots, and itsme is actively involved in shaping these discussions.

How does itsme® determine what data to share in specific contexts?

Data requests are reviewed during onboarding. For example, student job applications require sharing student attestations.

In what format will attributes be exchanged?

Formats depend on the data source. itsme® delivers data without modification. Future integrations may include verifiable credentials.

How is data integrity ensured during exchange?

Two options:

  • Verifiable credentials validated through cryptography.
  • Trust-based processes among all parties in the data chain.

itsme® ensures secure delivery of data from source to consumer.

Is user consent required for data sharing?

Yes, user consent is mandatory.

How will itsme® charge for data sharing?

Pricing is typically transaction-based per data element, defined by data sources. Contact us to discuss pricing tailored to your needs.
